Description

Alright folks, it's been a while since I posted, so I thought I share a character I made some time back but only recently have I been able to get someone to commission it for me.

Meet Seraphina of the Northern Mountain Clan, a Salamander, in a fantasy world.

Currently, I am working on a profile but here, you can see her in all her glory until I do so.

I like to thank :iconvinsuality: for all his help in fleshing out this OC.

I highly recommend him for anyone with some bucks.

*EDIT* Profile Up (at least what I can give)

Seraphina of the Northern Mountain is a young Salamander and a traveling warrior of the Northern Mountain Clan of Lizard-Men.

Personality

Seraphina is regularly called mature for her age and acts like an older sister to everyone she cares about (age never being an issue for her). While this has made others call her bossy, Seraphina often only seeks their wellbeing rather than wishing to push others to do as she pleases. Unlike most Salamanders her age, Seraphina normally tries to be cool and collected when given a problem and tries to figure out a way to deal with the problem rather than jump into the fray and let fate decide. Regularly thinking, Seraphina is curious by nature and likes to read to better her mind when she is not training her body or otherwise engaged in some other job. She is noted, though, to having the same passion for combat as often her “reading materials” are noted books/scrolls about combat strategy or history. Seraphina is normally motivated in doing something (like many in her clan) under the belief that it can prove to be useful in the future (though she admits to being weak in abilities like cooking, sewing, or otherwise abilities delegated to a household) and won’t turn down learning about or aiding in something.

While mature for her age and normally under control of her emotions, Seraphina is still a Salamander and she has a rather fiery side to her when she lets loose her temper. She does not take well to insults that are aimed towards her friends/family, and has been known to get angry when the “code of honor” her clan believes in has been breached in some way. Her temper can at times get the better of her, often leading her to lash out on instinct at the offender in various degrees (the worse the act, the more Seraphina is bound to pummel the offender). Seraphina often stresses herself harshly when she makes a mistake, and feels that she must continually bear the burden of whatever quest or task is delegated to her (even when others offer their help). Due to her species being warrior-like, Seraphina detests cheating of any kind and hates people who use underhanded tactics deeply and lashes out at the offender when she finds out that she was cheated. She is known to be sarcastic and her sense of humor can be rough around the edges at best (at worst, it can sound downright insulting for those involve).

Despite everything, Seraphina does have her softer side that she normally keeps to her close friends and her clan in general. She is kind and loyal, often risking her life over those she has sworn to protect and caring more about their wellbeing than her own even when in danger. She is referred to as a “hopeless romantic” often wishing to find the “perfect warrior” to challenge and fall in love with before she decides to raise any younglings and settle. Though she finds more interest in combat, she does have a liking for things such as clothing and jewelry and does not mind going shopping with other females. She is known to enjoy spicy food and can even eat a Bomb Pepper (a species of pepper in her world said to be the spiciest across the entire continent) with no trouble, actually enjoying the infernal taste that is often described of the vegetable. Dedicated, Seraphina is always searching for a new adventure to improve herself into becoming the best Salamander she can ever be.

Relationships

Northern Mountain Clan

Seraphina is attached deeply to the Northern Mountain Clan of Lizard-Men as it is her birthplace. Though she started out as a pariah for those around her age, she grew steadily into a very popular hatchling by her peers and the adults. Seraphina is attached closest to five certain individuals.

Chief Ansgar

The chief of the Lizard-Men who live in the caverns of the Northern Mountains, he is the equivalent to a father and grandfather for Seraphina. The eldest member of the Lizard-Men clan, Chief Ansgar is known as the wisest amongst them and loves to dote on the younger generations as he is now too old to do battle as he used to do. Seraphina was always attached to the Chief as he was the one who showed her how to read and answered all of the questions the youngling had at the time. Chief Ansgar has always been looking into the mystery of why Seraphina’s egg was at his cavern, and has not stopped his search for answers.

Kanna

The “Handler” for the nest that Seraphina came from, Seraphina relegates Kanna as her mother since all nests (and the eggs within those nests) belong to the clan. Kanna raised not only Seraphina, but all of the other eggs in Seraphina’s nest and considers them all her children (though she did admit to having more of an attachment to Seraphina). Kanna was always there for Seraphina, and love to mess with Seraphina’s hair and put it in different styles when the two talk. Kanna always knew that Seraphina was special and cared for the young Salamander far more than she was supposed to. Seraphina considers Kanna as the wisest and most comforting of the clan aside from the Chief, and when she needed to talk to someone, she would always go to Kanna for advice. Despite traveling, Seraphina normally keeps in contact with Kanna, and always makes sure to tell the elder Lizard-Man that she is thinking of the clan.

Sakura & Alegria

Sakura and Alegria are Lizard-Men of the same age as Seraphina, and two of her closest friends in the clan. Seraphina can speak normally around the two, and though it often sounds like they’re arguing, the trio consider themselves “sisters” who would do anything to protect one another. Sakura is normally the one that starts arguments with Seraphina, while Alegria does not mind watching the two bicker before she separates the two before it gets ugly. Seraphina does not mind competing with the two, and is always ready to accept their challenges when they declare one.

Alma

Alma is Seraphina’s best friend and the closest Seraphina has to a sister amongst the entire clan. Supportive, Alma considers Seraphina the strongest amongst the clan and would do anything for the Salamander when given the chance to do so. Though Seraphina finds much of Alma’s normal flirting habits (from holding on to Seraphina’s arm to hugging the Salamander in her sleep) annoying, Seraphina deeply cares for Alma and feels responsible for her shy friend (to the point that she would ridicule herself to save her). The two work best together, and both commonly joke that fate or whatever powers that might be do not want them separated for long or bad things tend to happen.

Burning Sands Clan

Seraphina’s second “family,” she spent a large amount of her years training in the many volcanic caverns of the Burning Sands Clan of Salamanders. It is the home of her Master who taught her much in combat, and Seraphina has always seen it as the home she might’ve been born in had things been differently.

Ainia

Known to most as “Morning-Star Ainia,” this Salamander is Seraphina’s and Alma’s Master after their Rite of Naming. Ainia is kind yet strict, often using a bit of humor at times to poke at her pupil’s faults. Despite this, she is willing to go out of her way to defend both of her pupils without care of what others might think (going as far as destroying the campsite of a bunch of bandits’ singlehandedly). Ainia can be exasperated by Alma’s flirting and Seraphina’s constant worry, but she sees both as her daughters and knows that if they ever need her help, she will be there for either of them immediately.

Chief Nassor

The chief of the Burning Sands Clan of Salamanders, Nassor is considerably jolly with both Alma and Seraphina. Giving wisdom to the two, Nassor always went out of his way to help the two during their training years as much as he could. Seraphina knows that Nassor is an invaluable source of knowledge, and often learns as much as she can from him when possible.

Amazons of the Redwood Forest

Close allies to the Burning Sands Clan of Salamanders, Seraphina became good friends with the Amazons of the Redwood Forest after her quest in aiding them in locating a missing scout party. Cahira, the leader of another scout party, owes much to Seraphina for if it were not for the Salamander; Cahira would’ve never found out the fate of her friends or been able to save her younger sister, Rosalyn.

Sage of the Redwood Forest

The “eldest human” in existence, the Sage of the Redwood Forest ended up saving Seraphina after she challenged High Commander (Prince) Conway del Meriti. Seraphina has come to see Sage as a man she should respect, though she also sees him as an uncle of sorts, and she has no problem showing her softer side to the old man. In return, the Sage helps out whenever he can by providing advice and appearing when Seraphina is in the midst of a hard choice. Seraphina feels that the Sage has a plan for her and her friends, but she cannot really read the Sage as easily as most people she meets.

Little Midgard

Seraphina and her friends (Alma and Ethan) are considered the saviors of Little Midgard, and are good friends with the young chief of the village, Ingi the Immovable. Seraphina is often called the “Dragon Maiden” after a mistake by Ingi, but has come to consider the nickname flattering if a little embarrassing despite the many times she has corrected the people about it.

Abilities and Powers

Natural Abilities:

Seraphina, like any Salamander, is very athletic in nature and trains often to keep her body in shape when the chance arises. She is noted for being capable of leaping across large chasms, and known to toss boulders her size with ease. Her claws are well noted for being sharp enough to dig into stones, and she can use them to scale even vertical walls with some relative ease. She is capable of keeping up with even a galloping horse, and has the endurance to go for an entire day running with no breaks. Seraphina has a sharp sense of smell and hearing, both which come handy in tracking down any prey she chooses. Like any Salamander, Seraphina is capable of manipulating flames in any shape or form; and while normally have a “fin” made of flame on her tail; she is capable of launching fireballs, breathing fire, and has been known to even breathe out smoke when sufficiently agitated.

However, Seraphina’s most valued asset in any battle is her sharp mind and her instincts when in the middle of combat. Capable of creating complex plans that take into many precautions, Seraphina prefers to use what is on hand (physical or otherwise) to disarm the foe so she can create room for delegation. When she’s not relying on her mind (or rather, when her emotions take control), Seraphina uses the many generations of combat instinct developed by her species to do battle and become a dangerous foe to anyone who foolishly has angered her.

Seraphina has a few downsides thanks to her species. One of her greatest concerns is water, an element opposite to her own, as too much water can and will kill her (the amount, as stated by Seraphina herself, is enough to submerge her up to her neck). She instinctively abhors water so badly, that even if protected in any shape or form from it, she will not get into anything deeper than a puddle. She can be startled, especially when she somehow has missed a person (a rare feat due to her senses always being on full alert). Her temper can also blind her to possible traps, and has placed her in deep trouble when she allows it to take over. She has also admitted that her plans can go awry if she has missed any information that would make her or anyone she is working with to “wing it.”

Expert Swordsman:

Seraphina is quite skilled with a sword and can disarm most opponents she meets with a few deft strokes. She has been known to take on opponents far larger than her with no fear. She is capable of wielding either a single or two swords (she prefers two, but has no trouble dealing with others with a single sword in hand).

Items:

Seraphina normally carries a magic satchel that is capable of carrying an armory’s worth of supplies ranging from weapons to food to clothing. Some of the more often used items that come from Seraphina’s satchel include a magic orb that allows her to communicate with her clan, her Master, and other few individuals; oils that she uses when she is molting; sharpening tools for her swords; and her personal stash of Bomb Peppers.
