Family History: The Hyuga Clan is one of the oldest and most powerful clans in Konohagakure. All Hyuga clan members are born with the Byakugan, the inherited Kekkei Genkai of the clan. The clan revolves around the Byakugan and is separated into two parts, the Main House and the Branch House, a creation that protects the secrets of the Byakugan from outsiders. The Main House runs the family while the Branch House protects it. The members of the Branch House are branded with a Cursed Seal. This Seal gives the Main House members absolute control over the branch members, because they can destroy the Branch members’ brains with a simple hand gesture, or cause them great pain to punish them. This Seal also makes sure the secret of the Hyuga’s Byakugan is safe, because it seals the Byakugan after the wearer of the Seal dies. There seems to be a great deal of bad blood between members of the Main and Branch houses, most likely due to the fact that no matter how powerful Branch members become, they exist solely to protect the Hyuga secrets. From this clan, Josuke’s mother, Manami Hyuga, was born. She was a member of the Main House and was considered a bit of a rebel as she aided in protecting the Main House along with many Branch House members. For this reason, many in the Hyuga Branch House considered her a true member of the clan as she was very charismatic and was genuinely considerate of the Branch House members.

Josuke’s father, on the other hand, was a man named Kenji Ienari, a powerful and somewhat violent Jounin shinobi who was nicknamed the “Konoha no Akaryuu” (literally, Red/Crimson Dragon of Konoha). Known for using Suiton Jutsus and for many successful assassinations, Kenji Ienari was feared by many and was rumored to have been the son of a Jounin in Kirigakure (Hidden Mist Village). Though the rumor has never been proven, Kenji had never in his life once denounced it nor claim to have been. Though skilled in such arts, Kenji always smiled and was actually a great person to be with when he wasn’t either angry or drunk. Knowing the Yondaime Hokage personally, Kenji became a valuable asset to Konoha’s ANBU forces and quickly turned into the head of all ANBU. After a few years though, Kenji decided that he would give up on being an ANBU and became a Jounin again after the last assassination mission nearly ended his life.

Kenji and Manami met by accident in Ichiraku Ramen Bar, and afterwards began dating, despite the fact that the Hyuga did not like Manami to date Kenji. Soon afterwards though, they gave up when it was obvious that she would not stop dating him even after being threatened to be banished from the clan. Manami and Kenji soon married and had a young son named Josuke. The birth of their child and subsequent raising was soon interrupted when the Kyubi no Kitsune attacked the village a year after Josuke’s birth. Kenji, being a true shinobi, left to stop the Bijû from destroying the village, leaving a scroll and a letter to Manami stating that “my life’s goal was to always fight until my last breath.” A few weeks later, Manami’s body began to give and she was forced to leave her son in an orphanage, dying a month later and leaving two scrolls and two letters for Josuke.

Personal History: Josuke was orphaned at a young age and was never really cared for even in the orphanage. Seeing that no one cared for him and he was considered by many useless, Josuke made a promise to himself that he would one day become a great shinobi so that people would acknowledge him. Leaving the orphanage at the age of five, Josuke was given his father’s old apartment and began to develop his skills as a shinobi by pulling pranks on the people of Konoha and meditating under the waterfalls nearby. Josuke soon made the acquaintance of Maito Gai, a Taijutsu specialist, who seeing Josuke’s penchant for physical training, gave him his jacket and adjusted his gauntlets so that they would become weighted. Using the scrolls that his mother had given him, Josuke was able to teach himself the Jûken style without the Hyuga ever learning that he had been trained in it nor that he could use his Byakugan.

Josuke soon graduated at an early age from the Academy and was placed on a search team under the leadership of a man called Masahide Ashida. During their third C-rank mission, Josuke and his teammates were attacked by several Jounin-level shinobi. Though their sensei took care of most of them, two of them had survived and finished off Masahide. Josuke soon took over command and after making his teammates go on ahead of him, Josuke killed both Jounin though they had severely injured him. After three days, Josuke returned to Konoha to find that he and his sensei had been put as dead by Josuke’s teammates when they didn’t return. Furious at this, Josuke decline the invitation to any team for several years, seeing the ugly side of the human soul and becoming cold towards everyone after being abandoned like he had been.

A few years later, Josuke was placed under the influential Anko Mitarashi, a kunoichi who was once tutored by the criminal Orochimaru. Despite his initial misgivings and the fact that he did not want the same thing that had happened on his first team, Josuke immediately became friends with Koya Inuzuka, a girl from the Inuzuka clan. Josuke soon showed Koya the scar he had obtained from the mission that had dissuaded from being a part of any team and told her that he did not take kindly to anyone that did not cherish their teammates. After this event, Anko punished Josuke and taught him that people made mistakes even if they do not mean to make them. She also taught him not to be so cold that he would lose his feelings for others when she gave a small speech alone in his apartment. During the month that those Genin that were participating in the Chuunin Selection Exams was going, Josuke saved the Oto Kunoichi known as Tsuchi Kin and learned of the invasion of Konoha as well as the plot to take Sasuke Uchiha that was directed by Orochimaru.

During the invasion, Josuke and Kin showed a powerful combination as Josuke’s Taijutsu took care of those that had been captured by Kin’s Genjutsu. Afterwards, Josuke began to show his true side to his teammates and began to perform better than before. Josuke soon began to date Kin, despite the fact that she had been an enemy once and one that had threatened the life of a Konoha shinobi team, and found her a very comforting person to have around once she let go of her hate. After the invasion is over, Josuke admits to liking Kin and asks her if she wants to be his girlfriend, which she agrees to as she too had feelings for him.

Nowadays, Josuke works with his team to return Konoha to its former glory.

Personality: Josuke is usually happy-go-lucky and good natured, mostly acting like a fool around his friends or joking around about something. This demeanor often labels him as a class clown or prankster who is generally a good friend. However, beneath the surface of the good nature smile lies a serious and perceptive fighter who will remain calm, cool, and collected when necessary or in battle. Whenever Josuke becomes serious, he tends to be cold towards his opponent and doesn’t allow any emotions take control, something that his friends comment is scary since he also talks to them coldly. While Josuke places little value on his own life, he worries about his companions constantly and would go as far as dying in order to protect them. Josuke has a very compassionate nature, helping those that need help for the sake of helping, and a desire to protect those he loves. Josuke also has a hard time trusting other people, and usually it takes either a long time or some sort of important event for him to make a new friend. Afterwards, however, Josuke can become a trusted ally who will do everything in his power to make sure that the mission is carried out and no one gets hurt. He also has a strong moral code that surrounds several rules that tell him to help children and women without question, whether they are his enemy or not. Josuke also has a soft spot for girls with long, black hair for some reason that only he can understand. He is also very sensitive to someone’s feelings and will quickly do what he thinks is best in order to comfort them.

Weapon of Choice: While he can use the regular shinobi tools with ease, Josuke’s preferred weapons are a pair of gauntlets that are spiked at the fingers. Not only do these increase the damage of his physical attacks but they also regulate his chakra so that he must have complete control over it. While this may seem odd since Josuke has excellent chakra control, Josuke prefers to use them in order to make his control with chakra perfect. Josuke believes that if his chakra control is complete then even if he is near chakra depletion, he will still be able to combat anyone he meets.

Jutsus: Josuke has mastered the Jûken style of combat as well as other Taijutsu styles. After the timeskip, Josuke has been shown to have mastered several Suiton Jutsus.

Ninjutsu:

- Bunshin: Creates an illusory clone of oneself that can be used as a decoy.
- Mizu Bunshin: Creates a physical clone of oneself made of water that thinks and acts just like the real person. Though the chakra is split evenly between clones, thanks to Josuke’s chakra control most people are unable to tell the difference between a clone and Josuke. He can create up to seven water clones.
- Henge: Transforms into another person or object.
- Kawarimi: A popular Jutsu that substitutes one’s body with an object of adequate size. This Jutsu is best used in tricky situations.
- Suirou (Water Prison): Traps the foe in a sphere of water held by the palm of one’s hand.
- Suiton, Suijinheki (Water Wall): A circular wall of water that can be used offensively as well as defensively.
- Suiton, Suiryudan (Water Dragon): It creates a large dragon made from the surface of a body of water.
- Suiton, Daibakufu - (Grand Waterfall): An enormous blast of water that has the power to wipe out landscapes.
- Suiton, Suiryu no Tsume (Water Dragon Claw): A Jutsu that was left by Josuke’s father and his signature Jutsu. Josuke gathers the moisture from the air around one or both of his arms to create a claw-like appendage above his own arms. Once the claw or claws touches the opponent, the water will then spiral around the user’s hand and fire at a high speed at the enemy.
- Suiton, Suiryu Inmetsu (Water Dragon Destruction): This is Josuke’s only original Ninjutsu technique. Although it appears similar in style to the Suiryudan in preparation, it is completely more powerful and dangerous to the victim. Once the “dragon’s head” has made contact with the opponent, the dragon will then swallow the opponent while spiraling into the air. Once it reaches a certain point, the “dragon” then splits into several smaller “dragons” that then shrewd the opponent with high speed.

Genjutsu: Nothing special. He can dispel very strong Genjutsu used on him with ease, but other than that, he has virtually no Genjutsu skills of his own.

Taijutsu: Josuke has mastered the Jûken, the Gôken, and a style called Capoeira with some relative ease, though he continues to practice these styles and molds them together in order to make him a force to be reckoned with. While he knows several techniques in all of the styles, Josuke’s greatest strength is his ingenuity in working all the styles he knows into one single movement or attack. Because of this, Josuke has expanded on the powerful Jûken techniques such as the Hakke Rokujûyon Shô and the Hakkeshô Kaiten (literally, </i>Eight Trigrams Palms Heavenly Spin</i>) by combining them with the other styles in order to create his Rokujûyon Gami Kyuuten (literally, Sixty-Four Graceful Heavens) and his Hishou Hakkeshô Kaiten (literally, Soaring Eight Trigrams Palms Heavenly Spin). Thanks to his training in Gôken, Josuke is able to open four of the eight Hachimon (literally, Eight Gates), and although he can or rather could perform the powerful Renge (literally, Lotus) techniques, Josuke prefers not to as he knows that using them may mean that he will not be able to continue his career as a ninja. As a result, the Gates aren’t open unless he finds a need for greater speed and power or if he is in a life-or-death situation. His most powerful Taijutsu technique, Raishin no Tenken (literally, Divine Punishment of the Thunder God), uses a combination of all three styles in order to barrage the opponent from all possible angles that not only damage the body outwardly at high speeds but shuts down the chakra coil system with each hit.

Also, Josuke wears weighted garments. His hoody and gauntlets were all given to him by Maito Gai who was very impressed by his Taijutsu skills. Though primitive, the weighted clothing and armor have trained him physical strength and speed a great deal. Not including the contents of the bag, the garments add up to about three times his body weight. When he takes them off, he is truly a marvel to behold. He becomes so fast the naked eye can barely spot him, and a single strike could come at several opponents in mere seconds. With Mizu Bunshin, he can take out a large squadron in a relatively short time.

Advanced Bloodline: Byakugan (All Seeing White Eye) – The Byakugan is a genetic trait that is shared amongst the members of the proud Hyuga Clan. Those that inherit the blood of this clan have almost featureless white eyes, which are the focus for many of their Dojutsu. After awakening the Byakugan, which is denoted by veins along the user’s temples surfacing to just under the skin, the Byakugan allows for the user to see with near 360 degree vision, meaning that they can literally see everything around them, save for one blind spot above the head and under the spine which differs from user to user. They also have the ability to see through solid objects, and can use a degree of telescopic sight to see things from a great distance.

However, one of the greatest uses of the Byakugan is the ability to see the chakra circulation system inside of another’s body. It is from this particular ability that they are able to employ their ultimate attack style: Gentle Fist or Jûken. Much in contrast with typical Taijutsu style of Gôken, or Ferocious Fist, which is focused on being insanely fast and strong, the Gentle Fist style focuses on being quick and precise, not focusing on damage. Each strike, when placed correctly, strikes along the Keirakurei, which is the network of vessels that carry chakra. This network is closely intertwined with the functioning of the body’s organs, and so when the Keirakurei take damage, the organs suffer as well. The Byakugan is the Dojutsu most suited to the Jûken style, since its vision can penetrate the body. There is no defense against the Gentle Fist, since one cannot train one’s internal organs to become stronger.

Particularly skilled users of the Byakugan, which appear only rarely, can take the Jûken attacks one step further. Along the Keirakurei are 360 pinprick-sized nodes called Tenketsu, or chakra points. When struck, these tenketsu will seal off, which close the opening points from which chakra is emitted. Thus, with precision, all those points along the victim’s body can be sealed, stopping the chakra flow to those areas. Most of the Hyuga clan cannot even perform this because the Tenketsu are too small to see. Josuke, although being only half-Hyuga in blood, is much like Neji Hyuga in that he taught himself the ultimate move in Jûken, Hakke Rokujûyon Shô (literally, Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms) during the one month training period before the third and final part of the Chuunin Selection Exams when he was on his first team (though he never openly admitted to using it.

Likes: Miso ramen, takoyaki, meditation, chocolate pocky, gardening, reading, Tsuchi Kin, his sensei, his gauntlets, his hoody, Maito Gai, and watching the moon.

Dislikes: Those who break their promises, anyone harming his teammates or friends, strong smells, ignorant people, being called a Hyuga, and those who cannot change.

Future Dreams/Goals/Hopes: Josuke has three dreams/goals/hopes in his life: to become a great shinobi like his father, to become strong enough to protect those he cares for, and to marry Tsuchi Kin. His first goal comes from the stories he has heard of his father and from the letters and scrolls he has that were from him and his mother. His second goal comes from the fact that he wishes no harm to those he cares for and he truly believes the ideals of the Will of Fire. The third came after the realization that he loved Kin and that she loved him back.

Extra Information: Josuke is usually enjoying a nice quiet meditation in an out of the way place so that he can relax if he has had a stressful day. He has a few hobbies other than training; including reading, meditation, and gardening. He does some cooking, though he prefers not to as he sometimes overcooks or undercooks the food somehow. He is very protective of Kin, and he will pin anyone onto a wall and threaten them if they try anything to hurt her or insult her. Josuke enjoys looking at the full moon and sometimes he will stay awake to watch the moon in the sky, musing over one thing or another. He considers Naruto, Kiba, and Rock Lee some of his greatest rivals and trains everyday in order to one day defeat all of them. Josuke is very proud of being called Ienari and if someone tries to refer to him as Hyuga, he becomes cold to them until they apologize. The letters and scrolls that were given to him by his parents are kept in a special safe that Josuke is the sole person who knows the combination as well as what is said in the scrolls or letters.
